Being half in London half in Paris, playing out at CLASH HI-FI is problematic for soundclash's radio historic presenters. Flex in London is still running the show and producing tunes under the FLEXITIME imprint. Augui is now in Paris occasionnaly DJing and running events as AUGUI DUB SOUND. This was meant to be a CLASH HI-FI reunion but as Flex is unwell, it will be only be augui dub & friends, but same vibes as usual: playing out reggae dub ska dancehall & dubstep for the dancing crowd

On SATURDAY 21st JUNE, for la fete de la musique, we'll be at 41 or 61 rue des Entrepreneurs, paris XV, metro charles michel or commerce, from 6pm til midnite.

We're digging the A side deep!! It's got Micheal Rose singing "Shine Eyes Gal" (black uhuru tune) on Lee Perry/Max Romeo's Anthemic Chase the Devil Riddim. Watch out though. I only gets REAL when SHABBA RANKS come in for FYAAAHH!!!

jah youth imo are one of the best selectors in the world, pure yard style. killer ja music, old and new, and some of the best one-away dubplates known to man! dubplates by prince allah, peter broggs, fred locks, michael prophet, and best till last, daweh congo to name a few!
Be warned: they do play a fair bit of 'major-key,' softer-style roots though- they haven't come from the Jah Shaka school of selecting which is what makes them refreshing. They're easily one of the most dread sounds out there... rasta to the core.
No one can touch their specials. BEEZ and JUGZ

Yes Jah Youth sound number one roots and culture soundsystem. Real roots reggae music. Well its not so much tin pan techno reggae but to my ears its neither "softer-style" or "major key". GOOD news actually... We are back broadcasting from tomorrow Wednesday, at 9pm GMT, from soundclash.org you will have a pop-up with right links... otherwise go straight to soundclash.org/live at the indicated time...

On the menu is the usual mixin and matching of olde and nu sounds... on the news front, we will feature the current hit riddim from Massive B, the Jah Love riddim based on Yabby U anthemic "warning the nation". On the mashup tip we have some no-so new but well hard and upbeat mashups on Mr Oizo's Flat Eric and a Barrington Levi anthem in digi 2005 style. On the oldies point of view, we found at soul jazz the original to Dawn Penn's No No No, which is an umtempo rythm and blues track, killer. Plus a new reggae mix from myself, including several tunes on the Downsound label and god know what flex has in store, but he's been busy doing other things like...

THE PODCLASH
We don't even know what a Podcast was, and we don't use Apple corp I tunes things, but we thought some of you might do. So, although we are still on the testing phase, do go on Itunes or elsewhere where you find podcasts, and look for the "PODCLASH"!!
As i just discovered, a Podcast is something you subsribe to, so that everytime you connect you Ipod to your computer, it downloads the latest soundclash show without having to do anything...

I will be off to the Jamaican Bashment, 2nd edition, this Saturday, in Le Mans, France.

In the meantime, in London, on sunday there is a big King Sturgav dance at brixton recreation centre, with U Roy, Sugor Minott, Josey Wales and more...

The next day in Hammersmith Palais, there is the Young Lions tour, with Turbulence, Gentleman, Chezidek....

Both these london gigs are BIG, and well recommened...

Easter Weekend - Report

Yes! It was an intense and vibesful easter weekend for many of us... After a good departure gig in our home at Gramaphone on Thursday, with Jstar mashing things up rightly alondside culture (see below)... we set off to Lille the next day... We made many friends on the ferry and took a couple of pics...

We arrived in Lille at the Djoloff reggae café, greeted by chief of booze, Ninja and chief of tings Medhi, aka Mexik1. 12prod is in fact a massive crew, with something like 4 selectors and 3 MCs, am i right? Djoloff a nice little bar, with nuff JA decoration and pics of crew alongside Sugar Minott, King Jammy's and many top-class reggaemen visiting this smallish graffiti decorated basement. The 12crew warmed things up nicely mainly inna early dancehall style...

After a couple of 12 prod dubplates, including some ruff Horace Andy and Shinehead cuts, we came in on Ashley Beedle's "Stand Up Jamrock", Bob Marley on the Jamrock... Culture then came in on Don Carlos' Hog and Goat version. Nuff versions excursions from the man Brother Culture, in good form despite a crowd which didn't fill the place up as much as one would have liked... Also, perhaps the Lille Soundbwoys would have like a more jugglist style and more dubplates... But who needs dubplates when you've got brother culture??

The crowd hadn't heard Upstate and Jstar remixes before... So we played it the original london mashup style, which first surprised the massive but eventually conquered them... We kept the dance going to tunes i would think, 75% were played in Lille for the first time... Nuff good vibes til 3...

After that, nice little wind-down alongside the 12 crew and the local rootsical authorities...

PARIS

After a long after party in Lille, we drove down to Paris and reached Nouveau Casino for a nice diner, with Parisian friends, Soul Jazz Crew and Etienne the promoter. Pete Reily and Scott Bethel represented the soul jazz alongside Oxman, who works at Dub Vendor and also helps compile Soul Jazz compilation like Studio One Lovers 2. The place opened at 12 and by 12.45, it was already full of dancers... Clash Hi-Fi mashed it in all style, including a 20min soul funk set with killer cuts from Freestylers and the Organ Donor version of the Lefties Soul Connection... Nuff mashups from the Flex stables and Upstate, and loads of response to Brother Culture, on stage for an hour on nu roots and oldies... Great sound and fully packed dancing session...
Soul Jazz came down with Oxman in top form, riding many classic studio one tunes, mixed in with recent hits and old school jungle... At 5 the place was still packed and on fire!!

Overall it was a wicked weekend... Big up promoters like Mehdi and Etienne who made is possible. Many thanks for those that travelled to reach the gig, and all the support and big ups... we will be back!!

Yes I, I&I went down to Malaga Spain, to MC along the mighty Irie Ites Sound System from France... Blazing Fire from their dubplate arsenal and their two singers, Keefaz and Ras Mc Bean! Plus a wicked live set before hand from the Wise House Crew, featuring local singers and MCs: Leroy Onestone, Zuri, Nabu, Little Pepe, Ras Boti, Payo Directo and Prince Mike. It was all organised by the champion WADADA crew who did a great job at pulling this one together and treating us like KINGS!

Hi everyone,

After a long wait and numerous teknical badness... Our easter special show is now on-line... Really sorry for the listeners that asked for this, we cumulated the radio server being down (and the radio being shut for another 3 weeks) and our website being incapacitated by too much traffic... The show was not even broadcast live because of the "problems", so it's been a poor two weeks but hopefully we are making things up for you on this one...

Dub Student who's released two 7s on the Deep Root / Universal Egg label is showcasing a big vault of unreleased uk dub and loads of intelligent and partyful mashups... System Error is in the second part of the show but that will have to be made available later... Still you hear one of his strongest tunes feat. Brother Culture TBR on a 12" soon. Plus lots of new tunes and a couple of exclusive tunes in the intro... enjoy

Last Friday, the clash designer Jules and myself trekked east side for:

Co-ordinated by E:vent and supported by the arts council, this multi-floor galery exhibits some of the most cutting edge contempory art... Mixing graphic design, architecture and sonic exploration... This event showcases different work until April 28th. A place well-worth visiting if you have an hour to spare... It's located on 96 Teesdale street, E2 6PU. MAP. Check the website for opening days and times.

Threshold provides a platform for the exploration of contemporary
sound art, and examines the areas of practice that intersect with
architecture – the programme is looking speciﬁcally at the relationship
between sound and space (physical, structural, virtual, animated,
performative and technological.) A conceptual thread will be set
around ideas of: threshold; topology; landscape; and borders.

On the night, in the beautiful loft where many of these artists live, there was a live minimal techno set from netlabel collective. Upfront and intelligent electronic music of today freely distributed on the internet. The place was packed and we had a rocking time enjoying a vibe we don't usually deal with... Not just noise and bang bang, but a varied collection of beats and mind-opening melodies; music to have a drink to, dance to and definitely enjoy the space around you... It was a proper rave in someone's living room, I swear!. Details here

One display we particularly enjoyed was the Cityscan by HFRlabs. Good news you can check an extract now by visiting the Cityscan website.
"The project aims to generate a visual metaphor that produces new correspondences between sound and vision. Generating an intricate layering of cityscapes that scroll and flicker on time with the music, Cityscan becomes an audio-visual pattern where the rhythm achieved is a metaphor of the rhythm of the city itself." is their description. The display involved two TVs on different settings, with city and green landscapes scrolling vertically in synchrony with some urban electro beats. It was the first thing that got us locked in...

It was also the last expo from the VTO gallery, who were resident at this venue until this closing party... One piece on show that really got us going was a flat screen displaying what seemed as an owl perched in a tree in a Tolkien-like background. If you only had 5 seconds of your time, it just looked like a digital image. But as you stayed a bit further staring at the frame, the owl began to look more and more animated, staring and nodding at your thoughts... With time, it started to look more like having the eyes of a Lion, with a mustache... and eventually, you had Father Christmas looking and frowning at you!.. must be witnessed to be felt, but definitely a interesting use of digital technologies... It was hilarious just to see people reaction in front of it!! Much of this work is going in an auction to be held soon, I'm starting to contemplate buying my first piece of "contempory art"...

Whatch out for more exciting material to be presented there as part of Threshold's residency at E:vent in April.. During April Threshold will focus on an experimental
residency: a group of sound artists will work with students from the
Architectural Association to create a site-speciﬁc sound/architecture
installation in E:vent Gallery. The Threshold season will come to a
reverberating ﬁnale with a presentation of the work produced in the
residency and a coinciding evening of live performances by renowned
sound artists and musicians.

This E:vent is also accompanied by discussions on resonance fm on Thursdays 7-8pm. Next one will be feedback session on the event, on thursday 28th April.

Since our home page http://www.soundclash.org/ is fairly rigid and only updated for key infos and the occasional "goodies", we thought it'd be nice, and up-to-date to have a blog... this way maybe we can get so more interaction from people tuning out there...

Loads of forums talk about our radio shows and the Flex releases. Big thanks for your support, hopefully here we'll create something exciting enough to get your occasional attention. here we'll post show contents in advances, details about gigs and events we do, reports and pics of past events... but also generall chat about the reggae world, and the world in general, let loose as we do on-air, but in words and in more depth. We try not to chat too much over the show because we know you tune in for the music and not our opinions... here we might have more to say... and anyone can just drop a line without even registering.

For example, I can already tip that the first part of next Wednesday's show will have some funkt up ethiojazz... there's a brand new LP from Mulatu Astakte out there:

It's just a ruff as some his EP on Sondway we played on November. If you haven't been stung by ethio jazz yet, hold tight, crucial funkt up vibes coming your way!!..

Also some raw african roots new releases to be played. In the second hour expect yet another revival roots reggae set from me, including the much talked about 12" from Education Vintage from Mighty Threes - Rasta Business and more killers I scored in the wicked Paris Shops Dubwize and Patate...

And from the 15th of Feb we have some serious guests coming through, first one will be Dub Student from www.dubterror.co.uk
